Geodata Collaboration

The NHS shall stablish an efficient management regime within the maritime geodata field by managing depth and sea level data for the Norwegian coastal and maritime zones and by being a national coordinator of maritime geographical information.

Actions

• Safeguard efficient and unified establishment and management of quality assured information on the shoreline, depth conditions and tide and making this information accessible

• Contribute to increased use and reuse of data, for example through Digital Norway

• Offer capacity and competence for management and coordination at the national level

• Cooperate with players that can quality assure and improve our products and services

• Be visible on the national and international maritime geodata arena

It is a paramount national objective to establish sustainable management of our coastal and maritime zones based on knowledge on ecosystem structure, function and condition. This presupposes that the marine ecosystem is mapped and quantified. The Institute of Marine Research, the National Institution for Knowledge on Bedrock, Mineral Resources, Surficial Deposits and Groundwater and the Norwegian Mapping Authority therefore takes part in an inter-disciplinary program (MAREANO) for mapping and communication of information on the marine ecosystem in Norwegian coastal and maritime zones.
