The Main Chart Series covers the coast from the border with Sweden
to Grense-Jakobselv (the border with Russia), and parts of Svalbard.
The scale is mainly 1 : 50,000 on the Norwegian coast, 1 : 100,000
at Svalbard.
Charts in the Main Chart Series on scale 1 : 50,000 are shown in
red in the index, and charts on smaller scale in green.
For areas in the Arctic not yet covered by the Main Chart Series,
the index shows charts from the Coastal- and General Chart Series
on scale 1 : 200,000 to 1 : 750,000. Charts in the Coastal and General
Chart Series are shown in green.
The Main Chart Series are charts primarily for navigation in inner
coastal waters. Plans of confined fairways are often inserted on
these charts.
The topography shown on some of the charts has been transferred
from the Land Map series N50, or in the Arctic from the Norwegian
Polar Research Institute.
