Daniela Orge Fuentes has recently completed her Master thesis at the University of Life Sciences in Norway, looking at “Women’s land rights in Peru and the effects of the rural land titling project.”
She documents some remarkable findings that
- the amount of women having received joint titles with their husbands has increased sharply during the last 20 years
- the number of women holding titles alone has increased.
- There are significant regional differences; the amount of women holding titles solely or jointly with their husbands is much
higher in the highland than at the coast. The explanation could be that the titling program started in coastal areas and only
later the gender issue was especially addressed.
Statens kartverk is proud of having sponsored Daniela’s work in Peru, and as a result of this her full paper could be retrieved here
