Since December 2006 Statens kartverk, in cooperation with the Croatian Ministry of Culture, is implementing the Protected Area Management System Project.
The first phase
aimed at the establishment of the IT based Management System for National and Nature Parks,
the second phase
aimed at expanding the system to include the Public Institutions at county level responsible for nature protection and management.
Currently there is ongoing the preparation of a project proposal and application for funding of
the third phase –
establishment of the National Ecological Network. The main goals of the third phase are (i) to define boundaries of the whole National Ecological Network on the Basic Map
of Croatia (BMC) in the scale of 1:5000 supplemented with orthophoto images (ii) to deliver required reference maps and updated
thematic data for the whole National Ecological Network, and (iii) to make the products accessible on the Internet to governmental
and non-governmental institutions, private companies and public users.
Croatian side is represented by the Ministry of Culture, State Geodetic Administration and State Institute for Nature Protection.
These institutions will enter into a partnership agreement of joint cooperation on the project execution. On the Norwegian
side there are two institutions – Statens kartverk, which administers as well as provides professional expertise in its domain,
and the Directorate for Nature Management contributing with knowledge transfer, professional advice and best practice solutions.
