Geographic Information for Development Seminar

[ Av: Anne Samuelsen. Publisert: 16.11.10, oppdatert: 16.11.10 ]

A seminar was organised by the Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre Authority of Slovakia and the Norwegian Mapping and Cadastre Authority (Statens kartverk) on the occasion of the State Visit to the Slovak Republic of Their Majesties King Harald V and Queen Sonja on 28 October 2010 (15.11.2010).

As a part of the program for the Norwegian State visit to Slovakia, a number of professional events were arranged, and one was a seminar on Geographic Information for Development. The seminar was arranged in co-operation between the mapping and cadastre agencies of Norway and Slovakia.

* The main objective of the seminar was to exchange information and experiences related to the establishment of National Spatial Data Infrastructures in the two countries and their participation in the EU INSPIRE Program.
* A second objective was to explore the potential of establishing contacts and  the interest for co-operation between the two authorities as well as between private sector companies in Norway and Slovakia.  The latter should be understood in relation to the EEA financial mechanism, under which the Government of Norway is providing grant funding for projects in a number of EU members, including Slovakia. It is a potential that such projects could be for geographic information.
